They recalled that Safronov had worked in the publishing house for about ten years, where he actually came to the place of his father, a military columnist who died in March 2007.

“Ivan is not in vain called one of the best journalists in the country. We know not only about his highest professionalism, but also about his character. Ivan is a true patriot of Russia, ”the statement said.

It is noted that Safronov wrote about the army and space, since he sincerely worried about them.

“Suspicion of treason against the Motherland in his case seems absurd,” they added there.

Kommersant emphasized that any citizen of Russia whose work is related to public activity may face a heavy charge at any time.

“It’s especially difficult for people accused of high treason to achieve a fair investigation and a transparent trial: the investigation is reluctant to allow lawyers, court hearings are most often completely classified,” the house added.

On July 7, Moscow adviser to the director general of Roskosmos, Ivan Safronov, who was charged under treason, was detained in Moscow.

According to the FSB, Safronov carried out the mission of "one of the NATO special services", collected and transmitted information that makes up state secrets.

Prior to joining Roskosmos, Safronov worked for the Vedomosti and Kommersant newspapers.

As noted in the Kremlin, the detention of Safronov is not related to journalistic activities.

The head of Roskosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, emphasized that Safronov did not have access to classified information while working in the state corporation.
