July 07, 2020 "The proposal from the Recovery Fund is a very important step towards solidarity. It is not a question of going back to what we were before but of relaunching Europe. Germany is alongside Italy on these issues. We can go out from the crisis only together ". This was stated by the German ambassador in Rome, Viktor Elbling, in a meeting organized by Febaf to present the priorities of the current rotating presidency of the European Union.

"We want to do our best - added Elbling - to resolve the theme of the Recovery Fund in the European Council in July", despite "we know that there are different interests". Regarding the other dossiers on the table of the German EU presidency, the ambassador stressed that "from September there will be the Brexit issue that must be resolved before the end of the year. The last three months of the year will be marked by talks with the British with which the positions are still far away but I think we both have an interest in finding an agreement ". But even with migrants and the reform of the Dublin regulation "we have a big topic on the table - he concluded - and we want to make important progress".
