A bus accident on Tuesday killed at least 21 people in southwest China when the vehicle plunged into a lake, state media said. High school students passing the baccalaureate were on the bus, said public television CCTV. The drama took place in the city of Anshun, in Guizhou province.

The drama took place around noon (4:00 GMT), said the provincial office in charge of emergency situations. The public television CCTV, which quotes eyewitnesses, published on the internet images of video surveillance showing the vehicle deviating from its journey, breaking down a safety barrier at the side of the road and plunging into a lake located below a small slope .

"According to the latest assessment at 5.30 pm, 36 people were taken out of the water. Among them are 21 dead and 15 wounded. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment, "said local authorities.
