Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been infected with the corona virus. The head of state said after a positive test in a military hospital in the capital city of Brasília. Bolsonaro underwent the test after showing symptoms of respiratory disease, according to the media.

Brazil has the highest number of infections and deaths worldwide in the coronavirus pandemic after the United States. So far, Bolsonaro has minimized the danger of the pandemic and has taken precautions. He often appears without a mask and also ignores hygiene and distance rules. He repeatedly referred to the coronavirus as "little flu".

Bolsonaro recently vetoed a general mask requirement law. In shops, factories, schools, universities, churches and other places of worship, according to Bolsonaro's will, there should be no mask requirement. In contrast, the president agreed to the mask requirement in means of transport such as buses and taxis. Congress can override the presidential veto.

In Brazil, almost 1.5 million people have contracted the virus, and almost 62,000 patients have died in the largest and most populous country in Latin America.
