During the summer and a little into the autumn, the Inspection for Healthcare and Care, IVO, will conduct an in-depth review of what has caused covid-19 to have such a strong impact on the country's elderly housing.

So far, it has been found that mortality in Swedish elderly housing is spread across the country, but can be concentrated to 40 municipalities where almost 70 percent of the mortality occurred.

In total, IVO has supervised 1,700 elderly homes in Sweden after the pandemic struck, and it has now been concluded that 91 elderly homes will be examined specifically. 16 of them are located in Västra Götaland.

Geråshus will be examined

One of the hardest hit elderly homes is Geråshus, located in Bergsjön, Gothenburg, where 28 people have died from covid-19. The accommodation is now one of the elderly homes that are the subject of IVO's review.

SVT News West spoke to Christer Andersson, who is the responsible physician for the housing Geråshus, at the beginning of the summer, who then dismissed the criticism directed at the accommodation.
