It was on the night between July 14-15, 2007, that a 28-year-old man was shot dead in Kangis during a fight with the convicted man who was 37 at the time.

A fight

The brawl began as a fight between the two men outside a hotel in Överkalix and later that night, the 28-year-old sought out the now 50-year-old man in his home. During the trial almost 13 years ago, it was described how the 28-year-old armed with a bat smashed a window in the man's home and that the now 50-year-old man fired three shots at him with a rough-caliber weapon. Two of the shots, one of which killed a 28-year-old.

Sentenced for murder

Haparanda District Court today sentenced the 50-year-old man to ten and a half years in prison for, among other things, murder. Later, the High Court ruled that he was guilty of murder and mitigated the sentence to eight years in prison. The man now wants to be fully acquitted after serving a sentence and has, with the help of a lawyer, applied for a raise in the Supreme Court.

Experienced police officers

Two experienced police officers have been hired to reconstruct the incident. The police have, among other things, concluded that the now 50-year-old man must have shot at the man who died at a maximum distance of four meters and believes that the court's conclusion that the shooting distance was ten meters is incorrect. In the application for the erection, the attorneys write that their client was unarmed when the shot was fired.
