Tunisian President Qais Said signed a presidential decree Monday, granting 135 people, Tunisian nationality, including 34 Palestinians, according to an official source at the Presidency of the Republic, in a statement to the Tunisian Press Agency.

The same source indicated that granting Tunisian citizenship to 34 Palestinians "comes within the framework of the President's keenness to champion the Palestinian cause and does not violate the file of the right of return for the Palestinians."

He mentioned that the rest of the people who enjoyed the granting of Tunisian citizenship are of Arab and African nationalities, noting that Tunisian law allows dual citizenship.

The source in charge of the Presidency of the Republic added, that President Said signed this order, "because he considered that granting citizenship to its applicants, especially those who have long resided in Tunisia and who have a desire and conviction to belong to it, is a human right."

He explained that Tunisian law does not set precise conditions for granting Tunisian nationality, which allows the use of discretion.
