The Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, in particular, said that he "approved of the actions of Latvia."
According to him, Estonia will analyze the effectiveness of such a measure as the “implementation of financial sanctions”.
The representative of the public relations department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Kairi Saar-Isop, did not rule out the possibility of introducing such a step on the part of Tallinn.
“Estonia and Latvia communicate closely on the issues mentioned. The competent authority for applying financial sanctions in Estonia is the Money Laundering Data Bureau (RAB). The Bureau analyzes possible measures, evaluates the information transmitted by the Latvian partners and forms its position on the basis of this, ”she explained.
At the same time, Peeter Saukrus, Advisor to the Department of Technical Supervision (TTJA), noted that in order to establish restrictions on the Russian television channel, a corresponding order from the Money Laundering Data Bureau should be issued based on evidence of “the economic connection of a certain authorized person with the television channel”.
The head of the RAB, Madis Reimand, said that the position of the bureau will be formulated after evaluating the data transmitted by Latvia.
On June 30, the Latvian National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) decided to ban the broadcasting of seven RT channels in the country in accordance with the EU Council sanctions.
On July 2, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius announced that a parliamentary committee on radio and television would be recommended to ban the broadcast of Russian television channels of the RT group.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the ban on RT broadcasting in Latvia by cleansing the information space because of fear of any “content of Russian origin”.
Dmitry Kiselyov, who is under EU sanctions, does not work for RT, he is the general director of another media - MIA Russia Today. Companies are two separate legal entities.
