The new government of Prime Minister Jean Castex was announced Monday at 7 p.m. at the Elysée, after a weekend of negotiations which continued at the start of the day. Gérald Darmanin, ex-Minister of Action and Public Accounts, replaces Christophe Castaner at the Ministry of the Interior.

Gérald Darmanin, previously Minister of Action and Public Accounts, was appointed Minister of the Interior for the Castex government on Monday, announced the secretary general of the Elysée Palace Alexis Kohler. From the LR right but joined Emmanuel Macron since 2017, Gérald Darmanin had already been approached at Beauvau in October 2018, during the last major reshuffle. He was recently re-elected mayor of Tourcoing, from the 1st round.
