Iran announced on Sunday that the "accident" that occurred last Thursday in a building in the central nuclear complex of Naznaz, behind "severe material damage" and "may slow down" the process of developing advanced centrifuges to produce enriched uranium.

A spokesman for the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency, Herhroz Kamal Wandi, said that the accident at the Natanz nuclear facility occurred in a place designated for the production of advanced centrifuges, and may cause a temporary slowdown in the process of producing centrifuges, but the relevant authorities are able to overcome this.

Kamal Wendy added that the damaged part will be rebuilt more to produce more sophisticated centrifuges.

Discussing all scenarios For his part, Speaker of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament Abu Al-Fadl Amawi said that all scenarios are being discussed regarding the accident of the Natanz nuclear facility.

Amawi added, after the committee meeting, in the presence of the head of the Atomic Energy Authority, Ali Akbar Salehi, that the experts are studying the security and intelligence side of the accident, and the results of the investigations will be announced after its completion.

It is reported that Iranian National Security Council spokesman Kiwan Khosravi revealed the cause of the accident and said that it would be announced in due course.

Tehran has committed to using a limited number of "first generation" centrifuges under the agreement on its nuclear program signed with several countries in Vienna in 2015.

However, as of May 2019, and in response to the US decision to withdraw from the agreement and reimpose economic sanctions against it, Iran has gradually abandoned part of its obligations contained in the agreement.

Tehran has resumed activities to produce enriched uranium in Natanz after it had agreed to suspend it under the agreement.

It also announced the lifting of all restrictions on research and development activities related to uranium enrichment, and the start of developing more efficient centrifuges, but it stresses that it does not intend to build a nuclear bomb as accused by the United States and Israel.
