On Monday, the verdict came in the so-called Björkholmsbranden where a hostel in a 19th century house on Björkholmen in Karlskrona was totally destroyed in a fire on January 28 this year.

The 23-year-old man who has been charged with causing the fire is now sentenced to six years in prison for serious murder at Blekinge District Court.

As evidence, the prosecutor has, among other things, presented a receipt and surveillance pictures showing that the man bought gasoline a few hours before the fire and that the flammable liquid was then found both where the fire started and on the man's clothes.

The district court makes the assessment that through the investigation it is considered beyond all reasonable doubt that it is the 23-year-old man who intentionally brought the fire.

"Nothing else indicates that NN was fully aware that his action meant a concrete danger to another's life and health and extensive destruction of another's property," writes the district court.

The 23-year-old was severely injured in the fire and had to be hospitalized in the spring before being transferred to the detention center. He has constantly denied crime.
