In total, there are 7,081 children in the county living in a family where at least one parent had debts or an ongoing debt restructuring at Kronofogden in early June. A figure that has risen compared to the same period last year, when there were 6,935 children, thus 146 fewer.

Highest share in the country

This corresponds to 11 per cent of all children in the whole of Sörmland, which is the highest proportion in all of Sweden. That figure may rise in the near future, according to Kronofogden.

Despite the high average, there is a big difference between Sörmland's nine municipalities. Vingåker has the highest share, where 14 percent of children have at least one parent with debts or ongoing debt restructuring at Kronofogden. Trosa has the lowest share of 5.6 percent.

There is help to get

In a collaboration between Kronofogden and Bris, children who are worried about the family's finances can receive support. Adults can also receive support from Bris on how to talk to children about these issues.

Children can call Bris curators anonymously every day on the toll-free number 116 111, chat, e-mail and post on Bris forum.
