They were on the windows of the entrance hall and on the white walls of the facade. Several tags with red hinges were discovered Sunday on the building of the Catholic Institute of Higher Studies of Vendée (Ices), in La Roche-sur-Yon. Some messages, which were partially deleted on Monday, expressed support for the LGBT community. Others used insults against the police. Chemicals were also poured into the locks.

The establishment says it is "saddened" by this "provocation" and will file a complaint. "The authors are unable to claim their message within the framework of the democratic debate", deplores Philippe-Henri Forget, responsible for communication at Ics.

Students released for degrading village against homophobia

Is there a link between these tags and the judgment rendered by the Poitiers Court of Appeal last week? Rejudged after degrading a village against homophobia on May 18, 2019 in La Roche-sur-Yon and chanted "Homo-madness, that's enough! ", Twelve students of the Ices were indeed released on July 1, at the same time of the offense of insult to homophobic character and of the obstruction with the right to demonstrate.

At first instance, the twelve students had been convicted of the offense of obstructing freedom of assembly and had received sentences ranging from 100 hours of community service (GWI) to two months suspended prison sentence.

"This is a file that we have closed for a long time," comments the director of communications at Ics, recalling that his institution had taken disciplinary decisions against the students involved. Three were expelled from the school, two of them permanently.
