In Jönköping County, there are 5728 children in indebted families in June - 111 more children than in June last year. The corona crisis is cited as a contributing reason why families may have been forced to change their finances.

- The risk is high that the number of children growing up in indebted homes will increase significantly in the coming years, says Tina Häggmark at Kronofogden in a press release on Monday morning.

Habo stands out

The figures mean that every fourteenth child in Jönköping County lives with a indebted parent. But in the county there are major local differences. The highest proportion of children living in indebted families has Gnosjö municipality with 9.8%, corresponding to 214 children. Habo municipality has the lowest share of 2.4%, corresponding to 83 children. Habo's numbers are one of the lowest in the entire country.

Jönköping County as a whole is just over one percentage point below the national average.
