When SVT Halland took a closer look at the police's handling of the "Lovas" report, the police first refused to comment. But now they agree to an interview about the faulty investigation.

"We have not succeeded in prioritizing in the right order here, unfortunately it has taken too long," says Peter Heidström, head of the investigative section of the police in Halland.

Criticism against the police

Although there were designated suspects, it took a long time before they were taken in for questioning by the Halland police. JO thinks it is unacceptable that it has taken so long. "The police authority must be criticized for failing to conduct the preliminary investigation with the urgency required," the authority writes in its decision.

The responsible prosecutor may also receive some criticism for his handling of the case.

"A betrayal"

"Promise", which is really something else, says the following about the criticism of the police:

- It feels good because they have clearly made a mistake and hopefully they will learn from this and never do it again. So others do not have to go through this fraud from the police.

More resources for similar crimes

Peter Heidström says that he now has access to increased resources within the investigation section for violence in close relationships, where the "Lovas" report was investigated. This is in line with a greater effort by the government on the police around the country. This has led to the hiring of more investigators in the section, among other things.

In the clip above, Peter Heidström responds to the Justice Ombudsman's criticism and explains what went wrong during the investigation.
