But since the plant parts that are excavated cannot be thrown in the wild or on the compost, recycling centers have begun to introduce special containers for the plants, SR Jämtland reports.

- We notice that this has become a major trend and we get daily questions about it, says Joakim Björklund, supervisor for the recycling centers in Östersund, to the radio.

Must be left for incineration

A container at the Odenskog central has now been marked with a clear label: "Invasive plants".

Anyone who removes or excavates invasive species must, according to the County Administrative Board in Jämtland, put the waste in transparent plastic bags, tie it tightly and leave the bag for incineration.

Received extra money

During the spring, several counties in the country received extra money for projects that will prevent plants from spreading and damaging biodiversity. The counties that have been granted money are Dalarna, Gotland, Halland, Jämtland, Skåne, Södermanland, Värmland, Västra Götaland, Örebro and Östergötland.
