Rapper Kanye West has announced this Saturday, when the US celebrated July 4, his nomination for the presidency of his country for the November elections, in which Republican President Donald Trump will seek reelection.

"We must realize the promise of the United States by trusting in God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for President of the United States! # 2020VISION," the rapper tweeted. He did not elaborate on his campaign, just four months after the election.

West has long since broken ranks with the left-most leaning of the entertainment industry to shout its support for Trump, and in 2018 the two met in the Oval Office. But in 2019 he said, during an interview on Apple Music's Beats 1 show, that his support for Trump had been a way to provoke Democrats and announced his own aspirations. "The time will come when I am President of the United States and I will remember ... every founder who did not have the ability to understand what we were doing," he said without clarifying to whom he was referring.

The announcement comes days after West released a new song, 'Wash Us In the Blood,' along with a video showing footage of the recent racial protests.

Since 2018, his wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, has made contacts at the White House in her fight for judicial reform and managed to get Trump to forgive a sixty-year-old for a nonviolent drug-related crime.

Trump, criticized for his responses to the coronavirus pandemic and anti-racist protests, is behind in polls for his Democratic rival, Joe Biden.
