On Sunday evening, Israeli warplanes launched a series of raids on agricultural lands in eastern Gaza, after firing rockets from the besieged strip towards Israel.

Anatolia correspondent reported that the Israeli Air Force launched raids on agricultural lands in the "Zaitoun" neighborhood, east of Gaza City, without announcing any injuries.

For its part, the Israeli army said in a statement that "combat fighters and helicopters raided Hamas sites in Gaza."

He added that "infrastructure has been targeted at these sites," without further details.

The army claimed that the shelling came "in response to the firing of 3 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Sunday evening."

The statement did not clarify the location of the Palestinian rockets falling, even if that resulted in human or material damages, while no Palestinian entity immediately claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.

The sirens sounded in southern Israel, but local media said that the Iron Dome defensive system had not worked, indicating that the first two rockets had not been fired towards populated areas.

From time to time, the Israeli army announces the monitoring of rocket fire from Gaza, and responds to that by targeting locations belonging to the Palestinian factions in the Strip, but since the beginning of the Corona crisis in March, the border has been relatively calm.

At the end of June, Hamas warned that Israel's plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank amounted to "declaring war."

On July 1, Hamas launched rockets toward the sea to warn Israel not to go ahead with the annexation plan, according to sources in the Islamist movement, AFP.
