“Today, a memorial complex in memory of submarine officers who died in the Barents Sea on July 1, 2019 has been opened at the Serafimovsky Memorial Cemetery,” the press release says.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Vice Admiral Igor Mukhametshin, representatives of the Ministry of Defense, relatives of the deceased officers and military personnel of military unit 45707.

“Today we opened a memorial in honor of their feat ... Streets and schools have already been named in honor of them, four more schools will be named in the near future, and a park of conquerors of the deep sea will be opened in Peterhof,” Beglov said.

At the end of September, a memorial plaque in memory of 14 submariners who died in the Barents Sea was opened in Sestroretsk.

On July 1, 2019, during a fire on the deep-sea apparatus of the Russian Navy in the Barents Sea, 14 submariners were killed.

They were posthumously awarded for courage, heroism and dedication.
