The environmental mayor of Grenoble Éric Piolle was cautious on Sunday regarding the ambitions of the new Prime Minister Jean Castex in matters of ecology, estimating that it is "really not in its radar".

For the elected EELV, guest on Sunday of the program "The Grand Jury" on RTL, the appointment as Prime Minister of this "servant of the State" comes above all "to embody" the "Jupiterian" position of Emmanuel Macron , which "concentrates all the powers".

"Macron is a neo-liberal who assumes the power of money and it is on this line that he was elected in 2017. He chose to absorb the right and to register in the political line of a liberal right ", estimated the councilor, reelected on June 28 for a second mandate with 53.14% of the votes.

"After the environmental victories everywhere in France", Éric Piolle judges that the arrival at the head of the government of this "technician of the method" will be more likely "to block the birth of the new world than to facilitate it ", even if a" man born in the country of d'Artagnan cannot be fundamentally bad ".

"I do not see what an ecologist would do in this government," continued the mayor of Grenoble. "One of the pillars of ecology in France, Nicolas Hulot, was there. We came out of it saying" friends, forget it, it's not worth it ". What his experience has shown, is that we cannot sprinkle ecology in a government where the course is neo-liberal. "

Asked about his national ambitions, and in particular about a possible candidacy for the presidential election in 2022 in front of the European deputy EELV Yannick Jadot, the elected representative estimated that the time was first to build "a collective project".

"I work so that what happened in Grenoble happens on a French scale, so that this humanist arc can find a political outlet and win in 2022. I am at the service of this project", said -it develops.

"Yannick Jadot is someone important in the ecological family. We need him. He wants to be a candidate, as he was in 2017. And I want our political space to win. These are two strategies a little different. "

Éric Piolle hopes that the designation of the future environmental candidate will not be done "in a small cenacle" and recalls one of the lessons of the June 28 election: "when the Socialists support the green, it wins. It is a method that market".
