Latnivaara, northwest of Gällivare in Norrbotten, is known to have unusually low temperatures in certain situations, writes SMHI meteorologist Sverker Hellström on his blog.

It is the recent cool air from the north that has now set Sweden a new cold record for the month of July.

What happened to the heat?

The night of Friday was the cold record for July in Latnivaara, northwest of Gällivare in Norrbotten.

- There was a sudden end to it. We have had a bit more windy weather and in connection with this, this cold air has come in, says Linus Karlsson, meteorologist at SMHI.

No high summer heat in sight

And the latest forecast also promises no high summer temperatures. The forecast for the next week shows more unstable weather throughout the country, occasional rain and even cooler air. The temperature in their places mostly comes up to 17-18 degrees, maybe 18-19 locally.

- We have a position now where we have temperatures lower than normal. We have received cooler air throughout virtually the entire country and it will be the closest time, says Linus Karlsson.
