Just over a week ago, the Norwegian government decided to continue to keep the border closed to Sweden. The risk of infection is assessed to be too high and those who cross the border must be quarantined for ten days.

Infected nurse

Recently, a Swedish nurse who has been infected with covid-19 should have worked at a hospital in Helgeland without having been tested before. The incident created a lot of discussion, but according to NRK it does not seem that the Norwegians are afraid of the Swedes. They understand that the government has chosen to keep the border closed.

-We Norwegians are very happy in Sweden. There are many who have cottages there and many go there on camping trips. The Norwegians we talked to say that they are not afraid of the Swedes but that they are happy that the border is closed, says Ole Marius Rørstad, editor NRK Nordland.

Border municipalities can be affected

For those who run tourism and trade along the border, it has been tough when tourists cannot pass. Ole Maurius Rørstad believes that those who spend the night with tourism can notice that there are not as many visitors, although tourists from Denmark, Finland and Iceland are still welcome.

In the clip you hear Ole Marius Rørstad about the Swedish nurse and the Norwegians' thoughts on the closed border.
