If the suspense over the re-election of the ecologist Eric Piolle as mayor of Grenoble was very reduced Friday, the first municipal council had its share of adventures with Alain Carignon as chairman of the meeting by virtue of his status as dean. Eric Piolle, strong of the 53.13% of the votes carried by his list in the second round of the municipal Sunday, collected the 46 votes of his group on the 59 of the municipal council.

Emilie Chalas (LREM) wanted to go "to the end of her process" by becoming a candidate and collected the 3 votes of her group, according to her "modest but nevertheless formidable". The other ballots were void (7) or blank (3). "I declare Eric Piolle elected by an absolute majority (...) and I congratulate him," said Alain Carignon, the former mayor (1983-95), now opposing DVD. It was an hour after the council started.

"Dean still quite green"

An hour when "the joys of democracy" having made the "dean still quite green", as he described himself from the top of his 71 years, the president of a session of which he monopolized the first moments. Recalling that it was a dean who had enthroned him in 1983 when he was "the youngest mayor of France", Alain Carignon also recalled that the museum of Grenoble - where the council took place because of sanitary measures - was one of his achievements.

When Alain Carignon expressed himself as president of the opposition group, he simply "proposed to the majority to choose another candidate" than Eric Piolle, believing that a "presidential ambition is not compatible with management from the city ". Proof that the match was expected, the youngest co-listener of Piolle, aged 20 and secretary of the meeting, recalled that she was born "after the victory of the Blues in 1998" and that she "therefore not known the years of corruption ”which earned Alain Carignon a conviction in the case of the delegation of the management of the water service.

"Moral lessons"

In his speech as invested mayor, Eric Piolle asked elected officials to raise their glass of water "which here has a very special meaning". "We cannot wash in the ballot boxes, the stain is indelible," he said to Alain Carignon. The judicial past of the former city councilor returned to the exchanges several times, with loud voices and a few hoots.

To Emilie Chalas, who positions herself in a constructive opposition and asks Alain Carignon "to give a little peace" to the other minority members of the council, Eric Piolle said he was "ready to work" with her, as during the crisis of Covid-19. As for Olivier Noblecourt (PS, at the head of a group of 3 elected officials), who offered to join in the "mobilization" in the face of the "climatic, health, economic and social" challenges, he was beaten cold by Eric Piolle who said he was prepared to "listen to his moral lessons". The next council is scheduled for late July.
