  • Anne Hidalgo, who obtained nearly 50% of the vote on Sunday, will be officially elected mayor of Paris this Friday, during a vote at the Paris Council.
  • "Did you like season 1? You will love season 2, "she said during her municipal campaign.
  • Its first measures, notably the maintenance of 50 km of "coronapists" and the pedestrianization around the Canal-Saint-Martin, should be implemented quickly.

She does not hide it. She wants to "go further". Asked by  20 Minutes in her office, four days before the first round, on the fight against pollution and the possible need for "radicalism" in environmental matters, the outgoing mayor Anne Hidalgo replied: "You really believe that 'would we have obtained this drop in traffic and pollution without will and determination, or without sometimes acting in a radical way? "Because according to her," even if we have done a good part of the way "," "we must go further" and in particular "go to a city where the private car is only used when it is essential".

Widely re-elected Sunday evening, on the occasion of the second round of municipal elections, the socialist candidate allied to environmentalists won for six years leaving her competitors on the floor. This Friday, she will be officially elected mayor, on the occasion of a vote at the Paris Council during which she should give a new “green” tempo when speaking to the 163 councilors of Paris. Ecological transition, fight against pollution, development of the bicycle or even pedestrianization should be the key words of the day and the years to come in Paris. What if, in the end, its 2014-2020 mandate was only a warm-up before an even greener 2020-2026 mandate?

Ready for a "velorution" in Paris

In 2014, during his election speech at the Paris Council, his first words, "his first fight" was that of housing in Paris. The word "ecology" only appeared once in this speech. But the fundamentals were present: "We will lead and we will assume an intractable fight against pollution. In July 2020, at the start of her second mandate, it is a safe bet that she will put more emphasis in her speech on ecology - the "foundation" of her program - as a priority, an absolute emergency. During her flash campaign, during a conference on cycling, the candidate who wore the colors of "Paris en Commun" had already set the pace: "Did you like season 1? You will love season 2. "She said she was ready to spend the second in favor of" velorution "in the capital.

Sunday evening, while a pink-green wave was sweeping the hexagon at the same time, she delivered her victory speech on the forecourt of the Town Hall, before a symbolic hug with David Belliard (EELV): "You you chose hope, you chose gathering, you chose a Paris that breathes, a Paris more pleasant to live in. As she promised, her mandate will indeed be even "greener" than the previous one, however in a context of post-Covid social and economic crisis. And the first measures should soon be put in place.

"Coronapistes", Canal-Saint-Martin and "diesel exit"

It has already promised to maintain 50 km of cycle paths known as "coronapists". With its union list, it also plans to exit diesel in 2024, limit speed to 30 km / h in Paris, create a network of “Vélopolitain” cycle paths to cross Greater Paris by bike, or the elimination of half of the parking spaces (133,000) in five years to enlarge the sidewalks or make them cycle paths. Without forgetting the creation of "urban forests". In addition, the new infrastructure installed as part of the deconfinement - pedestrian streets, ephemeral terraces - will take place over time. But voices are beginning to rise around recent infrastructure. A few days ago, an association of motorists, “Rouler Libre”, brought the “affair” of the “coronapists” before the Council of State to have them closed. Some elected representatives of the opposition assure that they will ensure the smooth running of the city of Paris in the coming years.

“I have always voted for measures that go in the right direction. I have always been committed against concreting and for more greening and I have always carried a desire to change our model and vision of the city ”, details Pierre-Yves Bournazel elected councilor of Paris under the LREM label. But according to him, it is on the method that we must be vigilant. “We need a good method of governance and involve all the actors, including the citizens. It is essential for successful projects. Finally, we must not be a city of contradictions. A green city is a city that favors quality over quantity ”.

The first major measure for Anne Hidalgo "season 2": pedestrianization "from this summer" around the Saint-Martin canal, from Stalingrad to République and therefore the ban on vehicles accessing the quays of Valmy and Jemmapes. While the renovations have just started, this symbolic site has undoubtedly not finished making talk.
