- Death: a child dies after drowning on a Girona beach without a lifeguard service due to the coronavirus crisis
One of the minors who was admitted last Monday in critical condition at the Hospital Doctor Josep Trueta in Girona when drowning on the beach La Punta de Roses (Girona) died this Thursday night.
The two children, aged six and seven, were in critical condition on Monday and one of them died on Tuesday; the minors were rescued from the water, they underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers and two helicopters from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) took them to the hospital after receiving the warning.
In addition to the two helicopters, four ground units, the doctor from the Primary Care Center (CAP) and the team of psychologists from the SEM traveled to the site to attend to the relatives of the minors. Members of the Roses Local Police , the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Civil Guard also attended , which is the body in charge of investigating the events.
The beach in Punta de Roses did not yet have a lifeguard service as a result of the coronavirus crisis, and this is the third death this summer on the Catalan beaches - the first was an 89-year-old man who drowned on the beach of the Somorrostro de Barcelona-.
