The French Presidential Palace announced today, Friday, the resignation of French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe

And the Elysee statement said, "Mr. Edouard Philippe handed today the resignation of his government to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, who accepted it, to continue with members of the government to deal with current affairs until the appointment of the new government."

The French "bfmtv" channel said it is not yet known who will succeed Philippe, who has served as French prime minister for more than 3 years.

The decision to resign comes after the Corona Virus outbreak, during which the French government came under heavy criticism, and the defeat of Macron's "Republic Forward" party, in local elections.
