The dry and warm introduction in the summer caused the County Administrative Board to assess the fire risk as high and therefore introduced a fire ban throughout the county. With the ban, it became prohibited to fire, grill and burn solid fuels in nature. Barbecues have only been allowed on their own site.

But tomorrow the ban will be lifted.

- The forecasts we receive from SMHI have changed quite a bit compared to what we saw during the week. This means that the fire risk will change from Saturday onwards, says Torwald Snickars, an expert at the County Administrative Board in Stockholm.

Much lower fire risk in the future

The County Administrative Board has followed the weather forecasts and has had regular contact with the rescue services. And now the weather is considered to have turned sufficiently enough for the situation to be considered changed.

- There is simply a much lower risk of fire spreading at present, says Torwald Snickars.

What will be the concrete difference for people in the county?

- What people most ask about is grilling and tomorrow will be fully allowed to barbecue, even in the archipelago and even with solid fuels, says Torwald Snickars.

- But firing should always be done in a careful and safe manner and all firing is done at your own risk, he continues.

The weather is controlling

Even though the general fire ban in the county is now lifted, it remains important to keep informed, he says.

- You have to find out if there are any municipal fire bans for other reasons, for example that you are not allowed to cook rice for environmental reasons. Then weather can come with heavy winds and then it may happen that we go in and make a new decision on a fire ban, says Torwald Snickars.
