The Sheikh of the Iraqi Calligrapher and the jurist of the Arabic Calligraphy, Yusuf Dhanoun, died this morning in a hospital in Mosul (north of the country); He suffered a stroke, at the age of 89.

Thanoon - who was one of the late calligraphers who lived in the royal era in Iraq - was transferred to the hospital about a week ago after his health deteriorated.

Yusuf Dhanoon was born in 1931 in the city of Mosul, and he excelled since his childhood in drawing and mastering Arabic calligraphy, then he strengthened this by studying, to excel in writing this calligraphy of all kinds, and participated in many international exhibitions of calligraphy in the United States, Britain, France and Malaysia.

Because of his old age and his inability to continue to practice calligraphy as it was previously, he opened a center specializing in historical and artistic studies and research, which he named in his name. Among the tasks of this center is to conduct lessons and educational lectures on Arabic calligraphy and its various schools.
