Thirty-eight cases of coronavirus contamination were diagnosed in 3,185 tests in North American Baseball League (MLB) franchises that resumed training on Friday, the MLB said.

Among the positive tests, there are 31 players and seven members of the management of a total of 19 teams, said the MLB which did not communicate the identities of the players concerned or the teams affected.

With a ratio of 1.2% of positive cases, the MLB is far below the NBA (basketball) with 5.3% of positive cases and the MLS (football) with 2.7% of positive cases.

The 2020 MLB season was originally scheduled to start on March 26, but kick-off was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It should now start on July 23 or 24.
