The Russians have clearly approved a constitutional amendment that will allow President Vladimir Putin to run again in the 2024 presidential election. According to the Russian Electoral Commission, 77.92 percent of the votes cast in the referendum supported the change. The turnout was 65%.
Constitutional amendments also strengthen the powers of the president and parliament and underpin traditional values, including by defining marriage as a man and a woman.
The seven-day vote has been criticized as unfair and fraudulent.
