The European Union reopened its external borders on Wednesday July 1 to a dozen countries. This is the case of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, but the situation is not clear.

From this Thursday, France and the other member states of the European Union reopen their borders to 14 countries. In this list, there are for example Canada, Japan, Thailand, as well as the Maghreb. Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, three countries where many French people go every summer to find their families: around five million French people come from the Maghreb in France. But beware: it is up to each country to decide whether they allow - or not - the French to come to its soil. And the situation is far from clear.

"A summer without Morocco, I can not imagine what ... I leave at least two weeks and tell myself that I will not be able to see my family or my second country, it is a bit desperate." For the first time in 30 years, Rachid may not see Morocco, the country where his parents await him each summer. Still no announcement from the kingdom on the reopening of its borders, probably not before mid-July. "It's a bit difficult to see clearly since there is no information from the authorities. I inquire every day and the only thing I saw was that the banknotes Plane were available in August. After that, will we be able to fly .... There is nothing sure so we are waiting. "

"We are making sacrifices and we don't know yet if we are going to have a vacation together"

For Algeria - on the other hand - the authorities have been clear: the borders will remain closed until the end of the pandemic. There, the sources of contamination are increasing. So Malika had to say goodbye to her three weeks of family vacation and the 1,500 euros already spent on the ferry. "These are the savings of a whole year. This is the trip that we are preparing as a family. Of course, we are making sacrifices, it's a hell of a budget so we don't know yet if we are going to have a vacation together this year . "

For the moment, holidays will only be possible in Tunisia. But to enter it, the constraints are heavy. Travelers must present a negative test before departure and self-confine at least six days from their arrival.
