The Alpine World Ski Championships will be held well in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy) in February 2021 on the scheduled dates, assured the International Ski Federation (FIS) Thursday, when the organizers wanted to shift the competition from one year to cause of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Italian Federation had asked in May to postpone the Worlds to 2022, the Veneto region (north-east) having been particularly affected by the coronavirus. The Worlds would have been scheduled a few weeks before the Winter Olympics planned in Beijing.

"Since this request, the majority of the FIS family has gone to the support of the Italian winter sports federation, in order to work on a solution allowing the Worlds of Cortina of 2021 to be held on the planned dates", or from February 8 to 21, 2021, writes the FIS in a press release without giving details about possible improvements.

As of July 1, the Covid-19 has claimed 34,788 lives since February in Italy, the 4th most affected country in the world, including 2,022 in Veneto, the 4th most bereaved region in the country.
