The correctional court of Béziers (Hérault) sentenced this Thursday to 30 months in prison, including 15 months suspended, a man who had threatened with a knife municipal police officers of the Hérault sub-prefecture, on May 6.

The accused is also prohibited from carrying a weapon and going to Béziers. The psychiatric examination ordered by the court concluded that there was no impairment of his judgment, but that there was a need for medical care.

A knife and threats

During a check, carried out in the context of respect for containment, the man had threatened municipal police by brandishing a knife with a blade of 9 centimeters, reported the prosecution on May 20. Armed with this knife, the man had repeatedly made great gestures towards the police, while shouting threatening words.

No police had been injured, but the arrest was particularly difficult, continued the prosecution: the police had to use several times a stick of defense and tear gas to disarm it, to the point of causing him a hand fracture, requiring surgery. The arrest had been filmed by two "pedestrian cameras" carried by the police.
