Ségolène Royal declared herself ready Wednesday with AFP "to lead the battle" for "a left assembled" during the next presidential election of 2022, by putting forward her "experience" and her "ecological identity".

"If I can be useful and if the left has the capacity to come together, I will fight this battle," said Ms. Royal, a former PS presidential candidate in 2007 and the first woman to enter the second round, which she lost. facing Nicolas Sarkozy.

According to her, "the good signal from the municipalities is that the ecology is anchored on the left. The ecologists know my work, I am a candidate difficult to denounce by them".

Several times Minister of the Environment or Ecology (of the Bérégovoy then Valls and Cazeneuve governments), Ms. Royal, 66, insists on the work she has done in the Poitou-Charentes region, which she led from 2004 to 2014, "with socialists, ecologists, centrists".

"I demonstrated that it could work," she says.

"We are told that the Macron / Le Pen face-to-face in the second round in 2022 is an inescapable fact. It is not possible not to move! The dam vote no longer works. I do not want to see Marine Le arrive Pen first President of the Republic and tell me at the time that I would have done nothing to prevent that, "she explains.

But "I am not on a personal itinerary. If someone is better placed than me, I will support him," she also said.
