The 34-year-old American basketball player JR Smith will find his former teammate LeBron James by joining the Los Angeles Lakers at the start of the season, the California franchise announced on Wednesday.

"Welcome to the team," the Lakers tweeted with a photo of Smith, a professional back, in his 16 NBA title franchise jersey.

The new recruit had won in 2013, in the jersey of the New York Knicks, the trophy of best sixth man of the NBA then, especially, in 2016 the title of champion of NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers then led by LeBron James.

Smith has not played an official game since his last outing for the Cavaliers in November 2018, but he trained with the Lakers in March before the championship was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Lakers then decided to sign Dion Waiters, but Smith remained in the region. The franchise recalled when it learned that Avery Bradley would not participate in the resumption of the NBA, in Orlando (Florida) from July 30, for family reasons.
