Getafe has activated its 10 million euro purchase option for left midfielder Marc Cucurella (21), who has already played there for the entire 2019-2020 season on loan from FC Barcelona, the Catalan club announced on Tuesday.
"Getafe has activated its purchase option on player Marc Cucurella and will pay 10 million euros to FC Barcelona. Club blaugrana will receive 10% of the amount of a possible future transfer of the player," Barça said in a statement broadcast Tuesday midday.
Passed by the young teams of Espanyol Barcelona and then trained at Masia, the legendary training course of Barça, Marc Cucurella was a pillar of the good season of Getafe this year, with a goal and six assists in 31 matches. Liga, almost always as a titular player.
Born in Alella, a few kilometers north of Barcelona on the Catalan coast, Cucurella has participated in seven Europa League matches this season with Getafe, without being able to score.
Passed by all the national youth teams of Spain, the promising small midfielder (1.75 m) has five games and a goal with the Espoirs de la Roja this season.
Winner 2-1 this Monday of Real Sociedad, a direct competitor in the race for European places, the nice surprise Getafe remains well placed in La Liga (5th) to grab a qualifying place for the Europa League, even the Champions League.
