After the 2018 elections, Munkedal was in a politically difficult situation. The Swedish Democrats became the largest party, the Social Democrats and the Center Party lost mandate while the Moderates and Liberals went ahead with more mandates in the council.

Jan Hognert (M) describes for SVT News West that the period after the election must have been "worse than the government crisis".

After several negotiations, the Moderates and Liberals finally agreed to cooperate with the Sweden Democrats in an agreement.

The pictures differ

But now, before the September budget negotiations, it has been discovered that the parties have had different pictures of the meaning of the agreement.

- We believe that the agreement meant that the Swedish Democrats would support our budget and that they in return were given the chairmanship of the council and the community building committee, says Jan Hognert (M).

It is a description that the Swedish Democrats do not recognize.

- Yesterday, the local council asked us if we would like to vote on their budget. We announced that we can never imagine supporting their budget without our own opinions, the Swedish Democrats write in a press release.

How come your photos differ so much?

- Yes, it is very strange. They want to show their feet and their wills. And I can understand that. It can only be stated that we think very differently on many issues, says Jan Hognert (M).

"No idea what's going to happen"

So now the parties are back on square one, and what will happen in the future is still unclear.

- Honestly, I have no idea what's going to happen now. If there are three budgets presented in the budget negotiations in September, the Social Democrats and the Center Party's budget will have the largest majority and win.

What are you doing?

- Then we will leave. Their budget is nothing we can stand for, says Jan Hognert.
