Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of "risking the future" of his country and his regime in the event that "Iran is allowed to establish its presence in the Syrian territories and on the borders with Israel."

Netanyahu directed his speech - during a joint press conference with the US envoy to Iran, Brian Hook - to the Syrian president, saying, "I say to Bashar al-Assad: You are risking the future of your country and your system."

Netanyahu and Hook also called for an extension of the arms embargo on Iran, which expires in October.

Hooke arrived in Jerusalem on the eve of the possible deadline for the Israeli announcement of an agenda to implement a plan to annex large parts of the occupied West Bank.

Iran and Syria and
addressed the Israeli Prime Minister, Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei, saying, "I say to the ayatollah in Tehran: Israel will continue to take the necessary measures to prevent you from establishing a new terrorist and military front against Israel in Syria," adding that Israel "will not allow Iran's military presence in Syria." ".

Israel accuses Iran of developing a precision missile program from Lebanon, which requires the transportation of strategic equipment through Syria, and Israel has pledged to continue its operations in Syria until Iran withdraws from it.

"We are absolutely determined to prevent Iran from establishing its military presence on our direct borders," Netanyahu added.

For his part, the American envoy said that lifting the arms embargo on Iran, which was established as part of the nuclear agreement signed with Tehran in 2015, "will allow Tehran to import fighter and attack helicopters, warships, submarines, heavy-caliber artillery systems and missiles of a certain range."

"Iran will then be in a position to export these weapons and its technology to its proxies such as Hezbollah and (Palestinian factions like) Islamic Jihad and Hamas, Shiite militias in Iraq and Bahrain, and to the Houthis in Yemen," Hook added.

He pointed out that "the last thing this region needs is more Iranian weapons."
