The leaders present in Nouakchott first welcomed the progress made over the past six months: strengthening of Barkhane, military success in the area of the 3 borders, improvements within the G5 Sahel since the establishment of a common general staff. "The efforts continue, the progress is significant but remains insufficient," conceded Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

The Mauritanian president also listed what worries, and in particular the crisis in Libya which is spreading and, according to him, could feed the armed groups and the "terrorist scourge".

In their final communiqué, the leaders also committed to strengthening the judicialization of conflict zones, that is to say the fight against impunity. A point on which the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres particularly stressed, stressing during the conference the need to ensure respect for human rights. Antonio Guterres also said he hoped for a strengthening of the Minusma.
