Starting today (30th), conscientious objectors are applying for alternative service.

After undergoing the 3rd stage of examination, 36 months of'consultation work at the correctional facility' was substituted for military service. How to examine conscience, and how long and how to serve, Kim Tae-hoon, a defense expert reporter, pointed out.

<Reporter> According

to the Supreme Court case, the Military Manpower Administration presented three criteria for conscientious objectors.

[Kim Jeong-soo/Associate spokesman of the Military Manpower Administration: Does the entity of conscience exist, that is, the entity of conscience? Second, the conscience is true and true to falsehood. Third, whether the conscience dominates the whole of life or the binding force

of the conscience .] Based on this, the screening is conducted in three stages to filter out attempts to evade military service disguised as conscience.

First, the applicant, parents, and neighbors' statements, school life records, and proof of identity documents are reviewed. Then, SNS activity investigation, group visit confirmation, and interview with neighbors are the first step fact investigation.

2nd stage pre-screening and 3rd stage This screening is conducted by 29 experts recommended by 6 organizations including the Ministry of National Defense and the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

More than 90% of the subjects are believers in Jehovah's Witnesses, so we do not expect any difficulties in verification.

It is still controversial whether the 36-month prison camp is appropriate.

Though it has been pointed out that it has been punished for punitive service at home and abroad such as the United Nations, the opinion that it is inevitable for the time being to block the source of active duty, equity, and evasion of military service is compelling.

[Lee Tae-Hoon/Alternative Service Judge: Since I was on the cutting board in public opinion, I actually doubled my service period. If there is no problem in the future and it is settled in the future, it will be reduced to about 1.5 times as recommended by the United Nations.] The

Military Manpower Administration will promote the expansion of military service facilities to disabled facilities and nursing homes.
