In a debate article in Expressen, Anders W Jonsson and Jonny Cato, the party's migration policy spokesperson, present the Center Party's most important issues in the Migration Committee.

Among other things, it is about parents and children being able to reunite, a long-term sustainable asylum system that lasts for several terms of office, a higher legal certainty in the asylum process and that Sweden complies with the international conventions governing asylum law.

This comes at the same time as the turmoil has grown among the grass roots as to where the party is heading in pursuit of a broad agreement.

"Violates the right to asylum"

Both the Moderates and the Social Democrats have opened up to a volume target in migration policy. A volume target can be designed in different ways, states Anders W Jonsson. But if it violates the right of asylum, the party will not stand behind it, he says.

- A volume target that says that in Sweden we can receive 10,000 refugees, but when the 10,001th refugee arrives, the door is closed. It violates the right to asylum, says Anders W Jonsson to SVT News.

At the same time, he is clear that the party is prepared to compromise to reach a broad agreement in the Migration Committee.

- We have strong principles. But at the same time, we want to see them realized in legislation and in that situation you have to sit at the table and negotiate. Because if you only have principles, you have to stand beside each other directly, he says.

"Don't have to worry"

What questions can C possibly compromise if he does not want to go into it.

- It will be the result of a negotiation. When we see the whole, we can decide that here we got through a number of important issues, which thus becomes a sustainable migration policy, ”he says.

However, there is a limit to how far C can compromise, he emphasizes.

- If we do not get through any important questions, we cannot support it either.

What do you want to say to the center parties who are worried about getting you in the boat with the Moderates and dropping previously important principles?

- They don't have to be a little worried. We know exactly what strong principles apply to the Center Party in the migration policy. They have been around for a number of years and are decided by our meetings and on which we have gone for election. But we have also made the choice to find a broad agreement on migration policy. It's important to see both things at the same time, says Anders W Jonsson.
