Broadcasting of seven RT channels banned in Latvia

As noted, we are talking about the channels RT, RT HD, RT Arabic, RT Spanish, RT Documentary HD, RT Documentary, RT TV.

According to the report of the Latvian special services, they are “the most influential channels of propaganda conducted by Russia in Western countries.”

According to TASS, referring to the NEPLP, the council made this decision, "fulfilling the sanctions established by the EU Council."

In the fall of 2019, nine Russian channels were banned from broadcasting on its territory in Latvia.

As the country's authorities noted, such a decision is not a restriction of access to alternative sources of information and is associated with EU sanctions against the owner of a media holding. 

The Russian Foreign Ministry called this decision a gross violation of international law in terms of freedom of expression and equal access to information.
