“This is an internal matter of the United States, and we sincerely wish our American colleagues and Americans to restore their peace and harmony as much as possible,” Peskov said.

Peskov also commented on the situation with the proposal to demolish the monument to the ruler of Russian settlements in Alaska, Alexander Baranov.

“As for the demolition of monuments, now it has become widespread, you know that in our country there was also a period when we demolished the monuments, it was not the most brilliant period of our history,” he noted.

Earlier, the Coordinating Council of the organizations of Russian compatriots of the USA (KSORS) drew up a petition against the demolition of the monument to the ruler of Russian settlements in North America in the late XVIII - early XIX centuries Alexander Baranov in the city of Sitka.

US President Donald Trump said vandalism against monuments had stopped in the country after he signed a decree on lengthy prison sentences for such crimes.
