"When I keep my distance, I don’t need to wear a mask, but when I don’t keep it, for example, when I go shopping, we obviously don’t meet, otherwise you would see me in a mask," Merkel quoted Reuters as saying.

However, she jokingly added that she would not say where she goes shopping.

In late March, Merkel went to home quarantine after being informed of a coronavirus infection by a doctor who was vaccinated. 

At the same time, she passed an analysis on COVID-19, which showed a negative result.

In early April, the German Chancellor returned to her workplace after a two-week “safety net” quarantine.
