This vote, which takes place in a context where diplomats are more lenient with the Covid-19 epidemic, is also a certificate of confidence. If, in Bamako, demonstrations demanded - this month - the dismissal of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (IBK), the Security Council would like to highlight the progress in restoring state sovereignty, required in the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation (APR).
Thus, the mission is renewed until June 2021 with the same number of staff, and a slightly growing budget; With its $ 1.2 billion, Minusma remains the third most expensive peace operation. The resolution should redefine new indicators of progress on the APR; for the disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and reintegration section, for constitutional reform and for the establishment of the northern development zone.
It will also set benchmarks for the Center for the first time, where the situation has continued to deteriorate, and where 580 people have been killed since January 2020. Finally, the text will further clarify Minusma's support for the force joint effort of the G5 Sahel for more efficiency during field missions.
