China News Agency, Taipei, June 29. "Central University" Taiwan Economic Development Research Center announced on the 29th that Taiwan's consumer confidence index (CCI) in June ended four consecutive declines, and all six indicators rose. Experts pointed out that the impact of the new coronary pneumonia epidemic has faded, and domestic demand has slowly picked up, but there are still challenges in the second half of the year.

According to reports from Taiwan’s media, such as Central News Agency and Economic Daily, the survey showed that the total number of CCIs in June was 68.77 points, an increase of 3.9 points from May. The six indicators of price level, household economic situation, economic prosperity, employment opportunities, timing of investment in the stock market, and purchase of durable goods all rebounded.

The consumer confidence index and the number of sub-indicators are "biased optimism" between 100 and 200, and "biased pessimism" between 0 and 100. The six indicators in this survey are still biased towards pessimism.

Among them, the "timing to invest in stocks in the next six months" fell to a historical low of 36.9 points last month, and rose back to 41.6 points in June, the largest increase. Wu Daren, the chief executive of the "Central University" Taiwan Economic Development Research Center, said that confidence in stock investment has increased, but the value is still low, showing that confidence is still weak. The global epidemic has not subsided. If demand continues to shrink, Taiwan’s manufacturing and exports will become a hidden economic anxiety in the second half of the year, even further hurting people’s confidence in employment opportunities.

The second indicator of increase is "employment opportunities in the next six months", which was 75.55 points in June, an increase of 4.05 points from May, indicating that although the public is still pessimistic about the future job market, as the epidemic slows, confidence has gradually been restored.

The Consumer Confidence Index survey is sponsored by the "Central University" Taiwan Economic Development Research Center, and is co-organized by the Taipei Medical University School of Management and Big Data Research Center, Health Power Co., Ltd. and the Taiwan Housing Survey. The survey period was from June 18 to 20, 2020. It was conducted by telephone interview, using computer random sampling. A total of 2855 people over the age of 20 in Taiwan were interviewed. At a confidence level of 95%, the sampling error was plus or minus 2.0 Percentage points. (Finish)
