June 28, 2020 One person died and another was injured in a shootout during protests in the American city of Louisville, Kentucky, where a crowd of protesters gathered to demand justice for the death of Breonna Taylor, a young African American woman killed by three agents last March. The city police department made it known in a statement. "At around 9:00 pm, news of some gunshots arrived in Jefferson Square Park. Sheriff department staff went to the scene and rescued a man who died on the spot, however. Shortly afterwards, we received the news of another victim of shootings in the Hall of Justice. That person was taken to the university hospital with non-fatal injuries. The park will remain closed for the next few hours, "read a Twitter post.

A video released by the American media shows a man firing a dozen shots against the crowd trying to take cover. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said he will provide more details as more information becomes available. "I am deeply saddened by the violence that broke out tonight in Jefferson Square Park, where those who expressed their concerns were gathered," he wrote in a Twitter post. "It is a tragedy that this peaceful protest area is now a crime scene."

In the last hours, in the USA, there have been 3 other victims of shootings, among them even a one-year-old child. In  California,  at least two people died and four were injured in a shootout at a Walmart distribution center in Red Bluff, the county seat of Tehama County. Local authorities confirmed this, explaining that one of the victims is the man who opened the fire. The other is an employee at the facility.

Tehama County Sheriff Phil Johnston said some witnesses saw the murderer go round the parking lot four times before crashing into the building and opening fire with a semi-automatic rifle. The attacker was later shot by the police and died in the hospital. The reason for the attack is still unknown.

In Chicago, Illinois, a one-year-old boy was killed and his mother was injured in a street shooting that shocked even the authorities accustomed to the rampant violence in the third Amrican city. The 22-year-old mother returned home Saturday afternoon when the assailant stopped by his car and fired eight shots, reaching the baby in the chest and touching his mother's head, police said. "It happens too often," Chicago police chief Fred Waller told reporters near the shooting location in the south of the city. "When will this end? When will we say when it is too much?" Asked the officer.

The incident occurred a week after the killing of Mekhi James, a three-year-old boy who died in similar circumstances while traveling by car with his father in the west of the city. "We will take the person who killed that three year old boy. We will take the person who killed this boy," assured Waller. The mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, and the police superintendent, David Brown, asked the residents of the city to come forward if they saw anything that could help with the investigation. "We must all be outraged by the violence we are experiencing in our city. This child, and all our residents, deserve better," said Brown. Arrests have been made so far and the police continue to investigate both cases.
