The Castellón General Hospital will investigate the complaint of an alleged homophobic attack by the center's security personnel towards a person who went to the emergency department on Friday. The Observatory against LGTBIphobia has advanced that it will take the facts to the Prosecutor's Office.

The director of the Observatory, Antonio Abad, explained to Europa Press that a person who came to the hospital with an epilepsy picture has denounced that, when he woke up and felt disoriented, the health workers apparently determined that his behavior was violent and called the staff security, who allegedly assaulted him.

Abad explained that, according to the patient's complaint, the guards "locked him in the room, beat him up with homophobic screams and caused injuries . " Apparently, they asked him "not to complain about the pain of the blow because worse things had gotten up his ass," words that "would clearly define the homophobic character of the attack," said Abad, who explains that the patient had come. with your partner in the center. The young man has contacted LGTBI + service entities to report these events.

The director of the Observatory has remarked that these types of insults are "unacceptable" and, in addition, has explained that he has previously received complaints from hospital users for having been subjected to abusive treatment by security personnel.

Abad has also indicated that on Saturday he had a conversation with the Minister of Universal Health, Ana Barceló , in which, as he has highlighted, Barceló showed "very good disposition" to determine what happened and that the reports of the professionals who have requested intervened. The head of the Observatory is in favor of "even terminating" the contract to the company that provides the security service.

On the other hand, from the General Hospital of Castelló they have given another version of what happened and they have indicated that the patient attacked the health personnel of the center, some events that they will denounce as they are also considered authority figures.

Center sources have explained to Europa Press that, apparently, the patient, on recovering from an episode of epilepsy, behaved in a "violent", "very agitated" and "screaming" way, to the point of pushing a nursing assistant and try to attack a warden.

The patient, according to the hospital, went to the emergency door, where the security staff reduced him and his partner. The General of Castelló maintains that there was a struggle in which the man suffered a blow to the head and a gap was made in the eyebrow and his partner also received a blow to the cheek.

Thus, from the hospital center they do not know if the security personnel spoke the homophobic phrase that the patient denounces and they cannot "confirm or deny" the verbal attack. In this sense, the hospital will open an internal investigation this week to clarify what happened.

In any case, he has qualified, these phrases would have been uttered after the alleged physical assault. Thus, he has indicated that he cannot yet assess whether there was a homophobic assault per se, but he can affirm that there was an assault on health personnel.

In addition, the General Hospital has stated that the nature of the injuries produced during the altercation was reviewed and that the patient refused to receive care at the center and signed a voluntary discharge.
