It was after the police heard people in the area that they initiated the preliminary investigation.

- We collect as many observations as possible from those who live or passed the area when it started to burn, and there is information that someone or some have been negligent, says police spokesman Thomas Agnevik.

As soon as possible, police technicians will search for what may have caused the fire, but so far it is not feasible.

- Crime classification may change depending on what emerges, says Thomas Agnevik.

Hundreds without housing

The fire alarm came in just before 4pm on Saturday. When the Rescue Service came to the scene, they noticed that it was burning heavily from an apartment on the third floor and that most of the house length also caught fire.

- There are 60 apartments evacuated where over half are burnt to varying degrees. The other apartments are smoke-damaged, says Heidi Berger, marketing manager at the municipal housing company Stångåstaden.

Staying in a hotel

The tenants who have not been able to arrange other accommodation have Stångåstaden accommodation in various hotels around Linköping. In total, it is about a hundred.

- We have solved this through the residents' insurance companies, says Heidi Berger.

How long tenants are forced to stay in hotels is unclear.

- At best, some will be able to move back continuously during the week. We have a continuous dialogue with, among other things, the Rescue Service, says Heidi Berger.
