"The road map of the right has failed and I ask for unity, unity and unity", announced this Sunday the PSOE Secretary General and President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in his first participation in an electoral act of the campaign of the Basque Country elections, held in San Sebastián.
Sánchez is already looking towards Europe and the negotiation of community funds, after having reached agreements such as the renewal of the ERTE with the social agents and the decree of the new normality in Congress with the votes also of the Popular Party of Pablo Casado.
The PP president, specifically, Pedro Sánchez has asked him "not to hinder" in Brussels before the negotiation of the distribution of the funds of the European Union for recovery. The Prime Minister has premiered in the Basque campaign with his sights set on the distribution of the 750,000 million euros with which the EU intends to revive the economy on the continent.
"We have very difficult weeks ahead to save the interests of 27 countries. If the PP does not want to support the Government in Brussels, unless it does not hinder", he defended before the Basque socialist leaders.
Support for Mendia and criticism of the PP
The PSE-EE relies on Sánchez's pull to confirm the good prospects in the polls, which anticipate a growth of its nine current parliamentarians to 13. A growth that still places them at a great distance from both the PNV and EH Bildu, with 28 and 18 deputies, respectively, but that will allow the socialist candidate for 'lehendakari', Idoia Mendia , to toughen the negotiation in a reissue of her government agreement with Iñigo Urkullu and Andoni Ortuzar.
Sánchez has endorsed Mendia's objective of aspiring to the Lehendakaritza, but he has focused most of his intervention on justifying the decisions taken by his Government in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. "Unity is more necessary than ever and it is what we have been practicing even when the right has used the virus to bring down the government," Sánchez insisted at the event, held in the San Sebastián technology park.
In addition, he wanted to contrast the decisions used by the Mariano Rajoy government with a "save himself who can" with the measures adopted by the Executive "not to leave anyone behind." Sánchez has highlighted the 9,000 million euros contributed by the Government to reform public health in Spain.
Among his achievements, the president has signed up to hold the 14 conferences of presidents and has become a staunch defender of "co-governance" in the face of criticism of the use of single command by various autonomous governments, but especially by the Lehendakari. Urkullu.
"The Government of Spain must coordinate action, neither recentralize nor fall into local selfishness. Co-governance is the future of the Basque Country, Spain and Europe, and that is what this Government has practiced," he defended.
